Neurologically based chiropractic care seeks to get to the root cause of the health concern, not just the surface symptom.  Unfortunately, when pain is severe, it’s difficult to see past just getting the pain to go away.  This rings especially true for patients that suffer with fibromyalgia.

This disorder is a chronic, musculoskeletal  pain that includes sleep issues, anxiety, depression, and memory problems.  Patients with fibromyalgia experience an increased sensitivity to painful stimuli, and research shows that the root of fibromyalgia comes from unbalanced activity in the spinal cord.

Chiropractors have been researching and working with the function of the central nervous system for over 120 years! Neurologically based chiropractic care has been shown to improve the nerve activity that causes fibromyalgia. One study showed that 120 patients who included chiropractic in their treatment for 12 weeks saw greater improvement in their pain and other symptoms than those who didn’t implement chiropractic care.  Those improvements were still present even a year later!

Adding specific, scientific, chiropractic care can help patients regain the freedom, health, and pain free life they wish to live.

“Very impressed with Dr. Micheal. I feel better mentally and physically.”

I’ve had severe pain for years now. I had severe pain in my back, neck, ringing in my ears, chronic fatigue and numbness in my legs, arms and feet. Some days it was hard for me to function properly because of the pain. I would find a temporary fix with physical therapy and I tried seeing an orthopedic doctor, neurologist and rheumatologist. When I first heard of chiropractic care, I was skeptical with the methods of treatment and had my doubts. But overtime, I was satisfied with my progress and started noticing less pain. The office environment is excellent, and the staff is always so joyful and uplifting. My husband started care and has also noticed less pain, improvement in his walking and more energy.
I would most definitely recommend neurologically based chiropractic care to others who are sick, suffering, or in pain. I love the way they educate you so you can understand what they do to help you! – Ginger

Low back pain is one of the leading causes of disability all over the world, causing financial and physical stress to those it affects. It’s important to think about all facets of pain, such as the areas affected, the source, and the depth; patients in pain need care plans that meet their needs for all areas affected, and neurologically based chiropractic care can help determine and treat pain at its source.

Suffering from back pain can be quite the challenge! Research has shown that patients with low back pain can benefit from not only surgery, but chiropractic care as well. Out of 67 patients with low back pain and over a period of two years, 41 suffered from low back pain for more than a year, and 12 had already been through a spinal surgery. After time and repetition of chiropractic care, these patients saw a 23% improvement in back pain after only one week of care. That number rose to 47% after one month!

People in pain need a solution, and neurologically based chiropractic care gives more than a “quick fix”; it gives the patient time to heal.

“I was ready for an answer without drugs or surgery.”

I have scoliosis and reverse cervical lordosis. I have struggled with both for years. I have had lots of tightness and pain in my neck, shoulders and back. In the last year it was severe, to the point of resorting to surgery if needed. I tried orthopedic shots but those only lasted for a few months till the pain came back. I also tried medications which helped but it didn’t heal the problem. I had my doubts about chiropractic care helping but I was ready to try anything. Thank God I said yes because after three years of pain I noticed 60% of relief after three visits. My first impression of the office and Dr. Micheal was God sent. I was looking for an answer without surgery or drugs. As time went on a lot of things got better. Sometimes the pain would move but resolve quickly. I have multiple family members who started coming as well. They have seen positive results and have experienced better sleep and mobility. The office is so encouraging, and they work well with my schedule. I would definitely recommend neurologically based chiropractic care to anyone who is wanting to give their body a chance to heal.

Today, high blood pressure is an extremely common ailment with about 70 million Americans reporting that they suffer from hypertension—that’s 1 out of every 3 people. Each year, almost half a million deaths are directly linked to high blood pressure, with the issue also being a factor in many other conditions, such as strokes and heart disease. Behaviors such as poor diet and lack of exercise often contribute to the problem. Keeping your blood pressure at a healthy level can be a matter of life or death, and in Johnson City, Tennessee, Integral Chiropractic and Dr. Micheal Bryan can help you address any concerns with hypertension.

What Is Blood Pressure?

Simply put, blood pressure is the force that pushes blood against the walls of the blood vessels. In order for your organs to function properly, your circulatory system requires oxygenated blood to flow. This can be measured by blood pressure, which is split into a systolic and a diastolic number, with the average being 120 (systolic) over 80 (diastolic.) The systolic number represents the force used when the heart pumps blood, and the diastolic number is the force exerted by the heart when resting between beats. Left unchecked, high blood pressure can lead to tears in artery walls, buildup of plaque from cholesterol, and exacerbated hypertension over time. It can also lead to stroke, heart attacks, and many other serious health issues.

Managing Hypertension

In most cases, high blood pressure will be addressed using medications, including blood thinners. These methods have a low success rate, and where they do work, they can be expensive and come with undesirable side effects.  Additionally, while they may lower the symptoms of blood pressure, medications do not alleviate the underlying cause and can leave room for other related conditions to develop. For those seeking to address hypertension once and for all, a Johnson City chiropractor may offer an alternative to more traditional treatments.

How Chiropractic Can Help

Multiple studies have shown a strong correlation between high blood pressure and the atlas vertebra, which is the vertebra located at the very top of the spinal column. It is solely responsible for communication pathways that control the cardiovascular system. A misalignment of the spine can lead to arteries contracting, leading to blood flow at the base of the skull that push blood vessel walls forcefully, and therefore causing high blood pressure.  An adjustment by Dr. Micheal Bryan can remove misalignments and reinstate proper blood flow.

A 2007 case study from the University of Chicago looked at 50 people with high blood pressure and, over the course of 8 weeks, gave some individuals real chiropractic adjustments and others placebo adjustments. Those receiving true adjustments were able to lower their blood pressure so significantly that doctors concluded it would take two medications to see the same results.

Headaches are an everyday reality and frustration in the lives of many adults. Headaches can range from mild and brought on by specific circumstances to severe migraines, which take an individual completely out of commission due to the pain they cause. Most chiropractic practice members are at least vaguely aware that their chiropractor can offer solutions to problems like headaches, but they don’t know the extent of the pain that can be alleviated through chiropractic adjustments.

Common Types of Headaches

There are several different types of headaches with a variety of causes and types of pain. The most common type of headache is the tension headache. These are headaches brought on by normal life conditions such as trouble sleeping, elevated stress levels, not drinking enough water, and even spinal misalignments.

A sinus headache is brought on by a buildup of sinus pressure in the area behind the face. This pressure causes a throbbing pain and typically goes away when the sinus issues have subsided. Chiropractic adjustments are a great way to relieve sinus pressure and sinus headaches.

Cluster headaches stem from the nerves in the head and face. When they become inflamed or pinched, the entire head can feel a sensation of pain. Chiropractors are experienced in helping to heal nerve pain, so they can often provide notable relief to cluster headache sufferers.

Migraines are severe forms of headaches. They come with all the traditional signs of headaches, but with the additional debilitating symptoms of blurry vision, vomiting, disorientation, and sensitivity to light or noise. Most individuals take medication to address these types of headaches, but chiropractic care can actually be far more effective both short-term and long-term when dealing with migraines.

Chiropractic Adjustments Can Provide Meaningful Relief

Dr. Micheal Bryan is a Johnson City chiropractor who can provide results in your efforts to reduce your headache symptoms and pain. Painful headaches are generally looked at by those who suffer from them as inconvenient inevitabilities that will always plague otherwise healthy adults from time to time. With this mindset so prevalent among adults, it is little wonder that most fail to find relief from their headaches and just resign themselves to deal with them. When a chiropractor such as Dr. Micheal Bryan of Integral Chiropractic gets involved, he adjusts the spine in order to bring about spinal alignment. When the spine is properly aligned, the central nervous system is able to communicate properly and send signals as it is meant to, meaning the body functions more optimally. When the spine is properly aligned and the central nervous system is working as it should, problems like headaches become incredibly rare and far less severe than when spinal misalignments are present.

If you’re a parent, you’ve likely experienced the common but unpleasant phenomenon of an ear infection. Typically found in children six and under, ear infections can be a normal childhood ailment, but they can also lead to complications and, in some cases, surgery. Antibiotics are often prescribed to aid recovery, and while efficient and effective, they can also cause harmful side effects. Each year, 500,000 children have a surgery to implant tubes in their ears due to chronic ear infections, but they rarely eliminate the problem altogether.  If your child is exhibiting symptoms of an ear infection or continually suffering from them, chiropractic care is a proven way to address these concerns without the same dangers as many other treatment options.

What Is an Ear Infection?

An ear infection occurs when the Eustachian tubes are blocked, cutting off the connection between the back of the throat and the middle ear. As we age, these tubes tilt and become less likely to clog, but a child’s Eustachian tubes are parallel to the ground, making them particularly susceptible to poor drainage.

A backup of fluid can cause bacterial growth and result in a bacterial ear infection. In this case, doctors may prescribe an antibiotic to get rid of the infection. However, sometimes the ear infection is viral, in which case it cannot be treated with antibiotics. Doctors may give pain medication to help relieve the discomfort of the infection, but the viral infection simply must resolve itself on its own.

For both types of ear infections, chiropractic care can lead to long-term relief for your child. The very top bone in the spine is known as the Atlas bone. When out of alignment, this bone can directly impact the Eustachian tubes and cause a fluid backup. A proper adjustment can lead to fluid draining quickly and provide long-term relief of symptoms and chronic ear infections ailing your child.

Stopping Ear Infections for Good

While medication can provide some relief, they do not address the root cause of the issue. The Eustachian tubes remain susceptible to blockages, meaning that ear infections will likely come back time and time again, creating long-lasting discomfort or the need for drastic measure such as surgery. Chiropractic care addresses the vertebrae that surround Eustachian tubes, adjusting them to allow fluid to drain properly. Studies indicate that by performing a gentle adjustment, chiropractic care can align the spine in such a way that ear infections are much less likely to occur going forward.

If your child is experiencing his first ear infection or his one hundredth, visiting a chiropractor should be one of your first considerations.
